Traveller Expectations

When you take an adventure trip with us, rest assured that everything we do is geared towards exceeding your expectations. In fact, our desire to excel goes beyond the point where your boots hit the trail – it begins the moment you get in touch with us, and it never ends. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing from our guests that they’ve just had “another trip of a lifetime with Active Adventures”.

Your Expectations

Safety

Of course, this is a non-negotiable. Safety is ingrained in our business and it’s something that we take very seriously in all our destinations. It's the primary reason we're still operating after more than 20 years.

Personalised Service, Care and Attention to Detail

For some businesses this is, surprisingly, negotiable. But it isn’t for us. After safety, if we can do one thing right, every time, it’s making sure we sweat the small things.

The Best Guides

If you’ve travelled with us already you’d be forgiven for thinking our guides are superhuman. It’s no mean feat to entertain, cook, transport, guide and facilitate, but for our guides, they handle it with grace and all the while the attention is on you.

The Best Itineraries

It takes a lot of refinement to perfect a 14-day trip, from dawn to dusk there are a LOT of moving parts, and potential for things to go awry. For all these years we’ve balanced on the tight rope of offering the right amount of activity, flexibility and travel time. Whilst utilising the best lodgings in the most unique places.

Value

Our trips aren’t cheap, we’re not in the business of slashing costs and therefore chopping down the experience at the knees. Our trips aren’t expensive either, they represent excellent value for money and for those seeking to maximise their time, there is no better way.

Our Expectations

It may come as a surprise, but the reality is, this is a two-way street (or trail!) You are ultimately responsible for the nature of the experience that you have with us. And not only that, you also have an influence in the experience of others in your small group.

Attitude

This is your vacation, and the attitude that you bring will set the tone for your experience. We get that at times it’s tough (we plan to challenge you) and we get that at times it’s a little uncomfortable (this is not a cruise trip). All we ask is that you keep an open mind, a smile on your face and a readiness for the unexpected.

Physical preparedness

Our trips are designed for everyday people. You certainly don’t have to be an athlete, but to be fair to yourself and your group members, you do need to be prepared. Got concerns on this one? Don’t stress it, our team are 100% dedicated to helping you choose the right trip, bring the right gear and be physically and mentally prepared.

Know who’s in charge

As we’ve mentioned, you rightly expect when you join our trips to be in good, safe hands. For us to ensure the whole group’s safety, we expect you, as our guest, to listen to your lead guide. They are the authority when it comes to decisions made on the trip.

Got questions, concerns or feedback? Drop us a line, we’d love to hear from you!

Rimu Trip - Should be #1 on Your Bucket List

First of all, the guides were "hands-down" the "BEST EVER"!!! They made this trip extra special. Katie C and Lauren were always looking out for our best interest. They were great at engaging each of us in the group, they took the time to get to know each one of us, they made sure they included groceries that you liked and more. They were fun, energetic and full of happiness! They worked very hard and feed us very well. The food was amazing!!! A big THANK YOU to both of you beautiful young women! Thank you active adventures for hiring fun and inspiring women!

    Excellent Trip

If you like outdoor activities this is your dream trip. The itinerary is very well planned. The scenery and landscapes are beautiful. Our guides Tia and Alex are fabulous. They are youthful, caring, knowledgeable, and extremely professional. Their hardwork made the entire trip smooth and enjoyable. Everyday is packed with interesting and exciting outdoor activities: multi-day hiking in Nelson Lake NP, kayaking in Milford Sound, biking along the shore of Wanaka Lake, and day hiking the Routeburn, Kepler, Sealy Tarns, Hooker Valley and many other beautiful short tracks in various NPs of the South Island. The group mates are very friendly and fun and the small group size made it easy to socialize. In addition, the food is healthy and very delicious. Thanks to every member of the group, in particular our great guides Tia and Alex, it is your care, warmth, encouragement, and tolerance that made this trip truly unforgettable.

    Fantastic trip

This was my first hiking trip, and I must say it was fantastic!!! Patagonia is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been (and I travel a lot). I want to mention that you have to be in reasonably good physical condition to enjoy this trip. I am glad that I trained for it. Arturo, our tour guide and Catherine (the W Trail guide) were excellent. They also made sure that they accommodated my dietary requirements (gluten, diary, and soy free) on the W Trail, which is not an easy task. I enjoyed every moment of the trip. I will definitely book another trip with Active Adventures, now that I know how much I enjoy hiking and active trips.

Whatever the dream, if its New Zealand, find a way!!

Where do I even start?!?!? NZ has been #1 on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. It wasn't until I realized I couldn't wait forever for that perfect time, to have X amount of money saved, to have a companion to go with me...that I decided to JUST GO ALREADY! And I suggest you do the same! Don't wait another moment. I went alone but found the most wonderful companions I could have ever hoped for! Even got a great roommate. The guides, Claire and Jess were PHENOMENAL! I started crying off and on a few days before the end of the trip because I became that attached to them and knew I would never see them again. Leaving at the airport, I couldn't even speak I was so upset and saying goodbye. So wonderful and beyond knowledgeable! I miss Jess' cooking and Claire's coffee already and I just got back yesterday!!! But seriously folks, the Manuka was beyond what expectations I could have ever dreamed. Yes it was indeed physical, so be ready for that; but there were some flatter, easier options for those that chose to not exert so much energy. There were a couple of times I wanted to just quit, but Claire and/or Jess kept me going saying it would be worth it (for the view AND the accomplishment) and MAN WERE THEY RIGHT!!!

The food, the company, the knowledge, the laughs, the comradery, the views, the EXPERIENCES....all of it was TOP NOTCH! I have my memories that will last a lifetime; best money I have EVER spent.

Don't wait! GO! I plan to go back in a couple of years to do the entire Milford Track. That's my only regret is that I didn't spend the extra to do that. But that's on me, not AA!

    South Island Treking trip

We are both keen walkers and had the Milford Trek on our hit list. We have already done the C2C in the UK, The Inca trail and the TMB in Europe (also in the 'top ten'). The Manuka trip allowed us to do the Milford Trek but also walk other treks on S Island such as The Diamond Lake and Mount Cook which were also awesome. The Milford Trek does live up to its name as 'The finest walk in the World'! The scenery everywhere is truly spectacular even when it rains which often enhances the experience.
