Coronet Peak ski field, Queenstown

Ski Coronet Peak - the local's choice and the closest ski field to Queenstown.

Coronet Peak is the most developed ski area in the South Island. In 2008, it received a $30 million facelift and now features a bigger and more user-friendly base building, a bigger restaurant/cafe, more snowmaking facilities and even an airport style private lounge for members by invitation only. Even though it now looks more like a ski field you might expect to see in Europe or the US, Coronet Peak continues to be the locals' favourite.

The trails are spread across a broad mountain. There are many ways to get down Coronet through every type of terrain from a wide groomed run called M1, to mogul runs, to wide open back bowls. There is a huge beginners area with chairlift access, which copes with the biggest crowds (not that the crowds here are anything compared the lines found in the US!).

Thanks to Greg and Mel for a memorable exploration of New Zealand's South Island. Need to come back to enjoy the wonders of this place.

    Loved it!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and felt we saw and experienced much of the island. Ben and Emma were exceptional guides: friendly, fun, knowledgeable, and hard working! We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary with this trip and they went out of their way to make it even more special. The sites were amazing and to top it off we had outstanding weather.

    Rimu Was Extraordinary

We have been dreaming of visiting New Zealand for a long time, we wanted to see and explore all the best sites in an active way, but doing this on our own would have been overwhelming! Active Adventures was the complete answer. They took us to the best places, sites and beautiful landscapes that we could only have dreamed about. Our group was small which allowed us all to bond, our guides Astrid and Steve could not have been better - fun, knowledgeable, organized and excellent cooks. I got the sense they really enjoyed what they do! I would strongly recommend this tour - a trip of a lifetime that words can’t describe - we will never forget it.

Guided Trips are the Way to Go!

I had been wanting to hike in New Zealand for some time, and finally had enough time off. Trying to figure out the hut system, what to see and how to get around seemed a bit overwhelming. Even moreso since I was traveling solo. Active looked to be a great way to travel without having to stress about the planning, travel, etc. Though I had never traveled like this before, I saw the places I wanted to travel to, and others I would have likely not have found alone. Everyone on the trip was pleasant and easy to talk to, friendly and, like me had a great time. Our guides, Katie and Astrid, really made the trip with their upbeat attitudes, informative revelations on everything we saw, continual answering to our sometimes badgering questions and always being ready to help out.

    Amazing Adventure!

I just got home from the Winter Rimu trip throughout South Island of New Zealand. To say it was simply "amazing" does not accurately describe the trip. The views, adventures, service and guides were extraordinary. The trip was worth every penny. Even when snowstorms came or other inclement weather hit, there was always a backup plan that allowed us to keep experiencing the awesome culture, people, mountains, lakes and glaciers of New Zealand. I was very impressed with Active Adventures and can not wait to plan my next trip through Active Adventures!
