Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise

Overnight Cruise on Doubtful Sound, on the Fiordland Navigator

An overnight cruise amidst spectacular Doubtful Sound, is a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience. The cruise offers you a relaxing opportunity to explore the tranquil scenery and wildlife of Doubtful Sound, Fiordland's best kept secret. The Fiordland Navigator blends old world charm with modern comforts, and offers a delicious three course dinner and a fine selection of local and international wines.

On board the Navigator you'll cruise around different, secluded parts of the fiord, whilst knowledgeable nature guides provide commentary, ensuring you miss nothing; be it the pod of resident dolphins, fur seals or rare penguins. After dropping anchor in a sheltered cove, you can choose to explore the shoreline by kayak or tender boat or to simply relax onboard. For the more adventurous (or very brave), there’s even a chance to go swimming!

Awesome trip!

“Our trip through New Zealand was a combination of hiking and a cruise on the Doubtful Sound. Our guides, Ken and Mel, were wonderful. They were not only our hiking guides, but our chefs at the end of the day. Our meals were exquisite!”

Chris Darcy review of Rimu Trip

The term trip of a lifetime gets used far too frequently. This was one. The South Island of New Zealand is likely the most beautiful place on earth, pound for pound. Nowhere else can you find so much beautiful landscape, diverse landscapes and microclimates packed into such a small area, which can be travelled in such a short amount of time while still doing it justice. Our guides, Holly and Claire, were fantastic - wonderful dispositions, knowledgeable, tireless and attentive - and made the trip special. And Kiwis are some of the nicest folks on earth (after Canadians of course) - we didn't have a single negative experience the whole time we were there. If you've been thinking of going to New Zealand don't wait - you can't do better than this trip - just make sure you take extra memory cards for your camera.

    Tui Trip

The Tui tour was the best trip I've ever had, all the group was great and very friendly, there was a very good feeling with all the group. It was so great to see all the nice places that you have in NZ, the tour passed so fast that I would love to do another one with you guys! And what about the super guides that we had - Jordy and Holly! They are the best ever, I would like to thank them again so much for the great time we had with them, I'm ready to do more! Holly next time we'll do the swimming race in the lake? Thanks a lot again, Ia orana from Tahiti.

    It doesn't get much better!

What a fantastic time traveling with family and new-found friends! New Zealand is an absolutely beautiful country, with thrills and adventure around every corner (and there a lot of them)! Our guides Ken and Elder were as good as they come; from their knowledge of the country, to their welcomed encouragement on the trail and the water. Oh, and did I mention their wholesome and delicious cooking?!?
I would not hesitate to travel with Active Adventures again. Their organization, communication and willingness to please were simply over the top. Next year in Patagonia perhaps???

    Experience of a Lifetime!

Active Adventures was an incredible trip. We had two excellent and knowledgeable guides that were a real team and complemented themselves very well--plus the meals they prepared were awesome. They REALLY made our trip special! There were so many new activities for me that I had never done before that I can't even pick a favorite--I loved them all. New Zealand is a beautiful country, and your well thought out itinerary certainly allowed us to see and experience it in unique ways--hiking, cycling, kayaking, wine tasting, etc. Celebrating my 66th birthday with champagne and fresh strawberries after hiking up Searly Tarn trail was a birthday I will truly never forget! Thank you Active Adventures!
